Special Collection!

These pieces were fired in a special kiln with wood ash and soda ash. Some pieces were fired along with the recent solar eclipse, which notes “Eclipse Series" in the title!

The Kazegama Kiln is a contemporary hybrid wood kiln. The word Kazegama means “wind kiln”. This kiln is a cross draft kiln where the fire enters the kiln violently, hitting and moving around the pots from the front to the back and out the stack.

At 2300 degrees F, wood ash soon followed by soda ash was introduced into the kiln and held at this temperature for periods to allow the ash to float around the kiln, hitting and melting on the surfaces of pots to glaze them! These pots are not glazed on the outside before going into the kiln, the surfaces are created solely from the movement of the flame, heat, and ash throughout the kiln. Each pot is unique and tells a beautiful story as it emerges from the fire and ashes.

These pieces are fully functional - food safe and dishwasher safe.
